Zombie Mode: Why your phone is winning

Your phone is a tool, not a trap.

We’ve all been there: you pick up your phone to check a single notification, and suddenly an hour has vanished into a blur of mindless scrolling. We call it "Zombie Mode" — a state where your thumb moves faster than your conscious mind.

42h was built to break that loop. It’s not just a battery tracker; it’s a mindfulness coach that lives as a permanent remider of your awarness on your Lock and Main Screens.

The Challenge: 18h or 42h

The rules are simple: pick a mode and don’t plug in your charger until the timer hits zero. By turning your battery life into a finite, visual resource, you stop seeing your phone as an infinite source of entertainment and start seeing it for what it is: a limited asset.

Stop Borrowing from Your Future Self

The core of 42h is the Reference Line. It’s a steady, ideal path from 100% to 0% over the course of your challenge.

  • The Green Zone: You’re in control. You’re using your device intentionally.
  • The Red Zone: You’ve crossed the line. The area under the curve glows red, visualizing the "battery credit" you’re borrowing from your future self.

If you overindulge in scrolling now, you’re choosing to have a dead phone later when you might actually need it. This visual friction forces you to ask: "Is this video worth a dead battery at 8 PM?"

Design Your Character

We can’t be robots, and we can’t cut out digital life entirely. But we can stop reacting like Pavlov’s dogs to every buzz in our pocket. 42h acts as a constant, intuitive trigger that brings you back to reality. It’s a tool for those who want to take control of their information flow and stop living on autopilot.
